5 Eco- Friendly Ways To Keep Your House Clean

Mrs Hinch and her cleaning ways have taken Instagram and the media by storm. At least 70% of the women in the UK have stopped shopping for shoes and are trying to track down the elusive Minky M Cloth. Just so I can clarify I am not one of these women. What I can say is Mrs H has inspired me to brush up on my cleaning skills and try a little bit harder to keep the house neat & tidy. The tips that Mrs H give are wonderful and her house looks pristine but I am not a huge fan of all the chemical packed products she uses. So here’s my compromise for a clean, no nasty chemicals, environmentally friendly home.

1. Ecover ecological dishwasher tablets £5.00 – Made from plant-based ingredients Ecover ecological dishwasher tablets are tough enough to cut through your greasy baking trays but still kind on the environment. It doesn’t leave any streaks or strong smells on the dishes and works well on an economic cycle. It is recommended that you use a pre-rinse with the product but I have never used one and have still got amazing results. 

2. Hoover SteamJet 2 in 1 Steam Mop £49.99 – What could be more simple and environmentally friendly than steam cleaning. No detergents needed, just the power of steam and a bit of elbow grease. I have been using this exact model for the last 2 weeks and it has helped lift tough strains off my carpet and left my windows & mirrors streak-free and sparkling. With no fuss, the steam cleaner can be transformed from a mop into a handheld in seconds. Once the tank is filled it takes less than 30 seconds to heat up and gives you roughly 15 minutes worth of steam. I have always wanted a steam cleaner and really wish I had got this one years ago as it’s a life saver. 

3. LoofCo Cleaning Pad £2.47 – This sustainable cleaning pad is ideal for cleaning your work surfaces, chopping boards, baths, sinks and more. Made from sustainable raw materials, it’s a biodegradable & recyclable alternative to plastic scourers, brushes, exfoliators and sponges. 4. Method Multi-Surface Cleaner Pink Grapefruit £3.00 – This smells delicious and so fresh. Another plant-based, nasty chemical free, plant-based formula. Method Multi-Surface Cleaner Pink Grapefruit can be used any room of the house without worrying about fumes around the kids. This is the perfect accompaniment to the LoofCo Cleaning Pad or If you want to go old school and recycle your old cotton tops can be used on rags.

5. Bio-D Non-Bio Concentrated Washing Powder £8.45 – Washing powders and detergents are one of the biggest causes of pollution in the world. They have been blamed for the decline of coastal plants & the cloudy water phenomenon. This versatile, non-biological, concentrated washing powder is suitable for use in automatic machines and for washing by hand. Perfume free, hypoallergenic and biodegradable, this is an effective natural washing powder. Free from toxic chemical ingredients including phosphates, optical brightener and chlorine bleaches.
