Its been 16 years since I have been on the dating scene and times have definitely changed. When I started dating Lee there was no Facebook, everyone had paid as you go brick phones and text messaging was only just being launched. A trip to the movies or a few drinks in a bar was the standard first date.
Ferratum’s commissioned a survey into the modern way of dating and the results make a very interesting read. How much do you spend on your outfit for a 1st date? 32% of women spending up to £49 on their appearance and 14% shelling out an eye-watering £100. The gents, however, spend far less, with 33% of men typically forking out no more than £20!
There was no dating app’s or swiping right. A blind date was just that, you had blind hope that the person you were meeting wouldn’t run a mile after taking one look at you. I think it shows a lot when 50% of men agree that dating apps are a good way of meeting people, while only 40% of women agree. I think men a lot lazier when it comes to finding love.
Us women are far more likely to stalk someone on social media before going on a date with them (54%) while only 40% of men admit to doing so. We want to see what they are like in their own natural habitat. Are they always out with their mates, does their family look nice, do they have an adorable dog ?? These are the clues to what a prospective date will turn out to be in the long run.
The big question is still who pays the bill on a 1st date? Women are far more likely to stalk someone on social media before going on a date with them (54%) while only 40% of men admit to doing so. I think that’s fair don’t you ? or do you expect the man to always pay?
The romance seems to have gone from dating and it has now turned into a game of cat & mouse. With the introduction of dating app’s and social media filters, anyone can masquerade as a totally different person. What a shame that we now live in an overexposed ( in every sense of the word ) world.
There is a lot that goes into the dating game these days and all I can say is I am pleased to be happily married. I will leave all of this to the kids.
This post was a collaboration with Ferratum Money but all my thoughts and opinions are my own.
