You may have seen a particular style of shoe wedged to my feet in the last few weeks. I have a new-found love of Castañer espadrilles, so much so I seem to have started a collection. Dating back to 1927 Castañer espadrilles became popular in the 1970s when Lorenzo and Isabel Castañer attending a trade fair in Paris. They met a young French man who turned out to be Yves Saint Laurent who commissioned a collaboration straight away. Since then many design houses have worked with Castañer ,most recently Missoni.
Uber comfy Castañer espadrilles can be worn all day without aching feet. Perfect for day or night they make even the shortest of legs look long and lean. One of the only styles of shoe you can wear from day-to-night Castañer espadrilles look effort chic with shorts for the beach and are perfect to wear instead of heels at night.
On holiday I wore my Castañer espadrilles with cut off shorts, playsuits and maxi dresses. We took a day trip to Cancun shopping centre and after 8 hours of walking around my feet still felt fine. In the UK I tend to wear them with ankle grazing jeans or dresses. I wouldn’t go as far as to say they are waterproof so a British downpour is going to give you wet feet but from experience, they can take being caught in a light shower of rain. I like to tie my espadrilles in a bow at the front as I think it looks nicer and adds to an outfit. I have seen other people tie them at the side and lace them up to their legs. Castañer espadrilles pretty much go with all the outfits in my wardrobe
They can be found in every colour and pattern and I am in love with the latest collaboration collection with Missoni. Retailing from £50.00 – £200.00 depending on the design they more expensive than maybe a pair from ASOS but the difference is in the fit and comfort. They are true to size so a size 7 on me fits perfectly. I have previously purchased cheaper versions from online stores but soon found they rubbed and blistered my feet. I brought my 1st pair last year from Very Exclusive and purchased 2 more pairs earlier this year ready for the warmer weather. So versatile are Castañer espadrilles I managed a 2 week holiday in Mexico with only 1 pair of flip-flops and 2 pairs of espadrilles.
