Love Sub is a UK based online subscription box company that offers every type of subscription box you could think of. You may already know that I love my beauty boxes ( so does Charley !!). Lee has a shaving subscription box that comes through each month with fresh razors, shaving gel and moisturiser. As he doesn’t get much time at the weekends to go shopping he loves how easy it is and never suffers from the dreaded stubble stage.
Harry is a long-standing subscription box subscriber. Just after Charley was born nearly 4 years ago I was looking at activities that me & Harry could do together while Charley took her naps during the day. In one of my Mother & Baby magazines was a voucher for a free kids’ activity box called Toucan Box. As it was free I thought we would give it a go and if he really liked them I would look at ordering them on a regular basis. The box arrived a couple of days later and when I knew Charley was fed, changed and fast asleep me and Harry sat down to discover what Toucan Box was all about.
I am by no means a ‘crafty mum’ but I do love some PVA glue, a big pot of glitter and having a bit of fun with my boy. I couldn’t tell you what me and Harry made from our 1st Toucan Box but I can tell you that we both loved the experience of sticking and glueing and the pride on his little face when he had created his 1st Toucan craft. We subscribed to a monthly Toucan Box on that day and we still receive them now. Harry loves the 1-1 time we spend together and as he has got older the boxes have been tailored to his age range meaning he never gets bored.
STEM is a huge buzz word at the moment and education authorities are pushing for better STEM education in schools but I think Toucan Box have been promoting this for a long time. Each box fulfils the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths in a very fun and interactive way. Harry is able to observe, design, invent, learn new skills and solving problems just by following the instruction of each project.
Over the years we have made bird feeders, dinosaur tails, flags for the Royal Wedding, painted like Picasso, designed our own pirate ship & much, much more. The time I get with Harry is precious, especially as he is now nearing 7 years old and needing my attention less & less. The time we spend doing our monthly Toucan Box helps keep our bond tight and I have found out more things about what’s going on in his life during a couple of hours we have done the boxes than I do the rest of the month. I would be the first one to admit that Harry’s attention to anything other than his Nintendo Switch is pretty low but when he sees his Toucan Box come through the post he is always eager to rip it open to see what we are making
Toucan Boxes come with all the craft supplies each child needs to build the project, occasionally a pair of scissors are needed or a pot to put the paint or glue in but in general Toucan Boxes can be done anywhere at any time. The instructions for each craft are clear and child-friendly, there are pictures and diagrams to assist with the reading and each box is age appropriate. Harry is more than capable of sitting and doing the project on his own but I enjoy the time with him and the occasional having a go at finger painting. As much as I think school work and homework is important, I am also a strong believer in learning through play. In a very busy household ‘Toucan Time ‘ as we call it is a very calm, quiet time. It’s a time when I see my nearly 7 years old imagination come back to life and the joy he gets from ‘Toucan Time ‘.
The beauty of Toucan Boxes is they are so convenient. You set your subscription up online, you can pause your subscription if you know you are going on holiday, you can add extra boxes on for siblings or as presents for friends and if you really aren’t enjoying them ( you must be mad ) you can cancel the subscription at any time. Toucan Boxes are £13.90/MONTH and they are delivered through your letterbox with no fuss. Each Toucan Box arrives personalised with your child’s name on it and contains a craft project, activity magazine and stickers.
We love our monthly Toucan Box and will keep our subscription going as long as Harry enjoys receiving them. For the price of a kid’s magazine with cheap plastic toys on them, he receives a fun, educational experience that lasts a lot longer than the crappy plastic toys do !!
