Transitioning Your Summer wardrobe to Autumn/Winter

Summer may have deserted us but just before you pack away your floaty dresses and linen pants let me help you transition them into autumn/winter. We all have a couple of items we were saving for that BBQ ( which never happened ) for me it was this stunning  Crochet Set from Mango . I had been eying it up for a couple of weeks and finally purchased it in time for an outdoor event, which then got cancelled due to the rain 🙁   I refuse to pack it away just yet so thought it would be fun to come up with a few ideas of how to transition your favourite summer items through into autumn/winter.

Layering is Key

One of the secrets to acing the transition is mastering the art of layering. Start by updating your base layers. My crochet set is see-through which would be fine for showing off your tan on holiday but not suitable for walking down the street in your local village. To save exposing myself Im wearing nude-coloured thermal leggings and a vest under the co-ord. The thermals are very thin and you can’t see them, but they keep me warm against the changing weather. I have added a selection HERE to help keep you warm. Cotton t-shirts also make a great base layer under outfits if you aren’t quite ready to put on the thermals. Look for 100% cotton as this will help regulate your body temperature.

Classic Outerwear

A well-fitted trench coat, a tailored blazer, or a simple leather jacket can instantly transform your summer outfit into an autumn/winter one and keep you warm. Neutral tones will help tame any colourful summer patterns and elevate any outfit. These timeless pieces not only ooze sophistication but also offer versatility, making them essential additions to your wardrobe for a chic and cosy seasonal transition. Cashmere is great for moving between the seasons. It is extremely soft and has insulating properties. Once only for the rich, you can now find a very large selection on the highstreet.

Accessories

Upgrade your summer beach basket with a beautiful crossbody bag. Perfect for keeping your hands free while fighting the increasing breeze. Autumn/winter is a great opportunity to break out the hats. Whether it’s a statement Fedora, a classic beret, or a colourful beanie, covering your head will ensure you keep cosy in the dropping temperatures. Additionally, don’t forget to include pashminas as transitional accessories. They effortlessly layer over outfits and provide excellent protection against chilly weather.

Don’t Forget the Denim:

Denim is a wardrobe staple that can easily transition from season to season. Incorporate denim jeans, skirts, or jackets into your autumn/winter wardrobe to add a touch of casual style. You can pair denim with almost anything, making it super simple to throw on and a reliable choice. Also don’t shy away from wearing white denim. This can look stylish when paired with muted tones or to break up a black outfit. If like me you have some crochet items in your wardrobe then mix them with blue denim and cowboy boots to create an autumnal boho outfit.

Transitioning your summer wardrobe to autumn/winter doesn’t have to be daunting. By incorporating base layers, neutral tones and sticking to classic outerwear you can create a wardrobe that’s both stylish and practical. All it takes is a bit of creativity and some key pieces, you’ll soon be ready to embrace the changing season in style.
